Allan Busk and representatives from 3F Nordhøjfyn stopped by to get a firsthand look at the company and learn about the challenges it faces in an ever-changing world..
Long-term, stable conditions are essential if companies are to continue investing, developing, and creating jobs in Denmark.
This is the message from Allan Busk, chairman of 3F’s Green Group, following a visit to Emmelev A/S in October.
"During the visit, we had a productive discussion about the challenges shaping the future of agriculture and food production. Framework conditions, the green transition, energy prices, and access to raw materials are critical factors for companies like Emmelev, which are closely linked to the Danish agricultural sector," Allan Busk noted on social media regarding the visit.
He visited Emmelev alongside Leif Rothe Rasmussen and John Rothe—chairman and vice-chairman of 3F Nordhøjfyn, respectively—and gained an insightful look into the company’s production processes, development, and future vision.
Founded in 1838, Emmelev is Denmark’s leading circular producer of rapeseed-based biodiesel.
The company also produces rapeseed oil, rapeseed cake, and glycerin, which are used in sectors including animal feed, food production, energy, and pharmaceuticals. With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, Emmelev is continuously working to develop new products.
The company employs 52 skilled staff members who, every single day, contribute to ensuring production, development, and value creation within the local area.
This underscores the importance of such companies for employment on Fyn and for Denmark’s green transition, writes Allan Busk.
Reducing the climate impact
Particularly impressive is the company’s close collaboration with Danish farmers. Emmelev is the only oil mill that purchases rapeseed directly from farmers, and the majority of its raw materials are sourced within a 200-kilometer radius to reduce the climate impact associated with transport.
Open dialogue regarding opportunities
Thanks to CEO Morten Simonsen and union representative Gary Grant at Emmelev A/S for an engaging tour and a very open dialogue concerning both the opportunities and the challenges facing Danish production, agriculture, and the green transition.
It is inspiring to encounter a company that, after nearly 200 years, continues to ask itself: "What’s next?" writes Allan Busk.
