This week, Nordvestfyns Landboungdom visited Emmelev A/S. They got a good impression of how large the production is: Rapeseed from 33 trucks go through the plant every day.
This week,a group of future farmers chose to spend an evening at Emmelev A/S to get an impression of how big a role the company plays in agriculture – locally and nationally.
It was members of the locale organization of Rural Youth, landboungdom, who, with chairman Ida Høstgaard in the lead, received the traditional grilled sausages and a briefing from co-owner Morten Simonsen. After that they were divided into groups and given a tour of the company, where employees were ready and talked about what they are working on.
The young people noted that a lot of rapeseed goes through the plant on North Funen(Nordfyn): The fact that the raw material base in a day is equivalent to some trucks can transport, and it takes just as many trucks to drive the finished products away from the factory made an impression.
MortenSimonsen explained that rapeseed forms the basis for the production of a number of products. This applies to rapeseed oil, where 80 percent is further processed into biodiesel, and the rest is used in the fishing industry. In addition, protein-rich rapeseed cakes are used especially as feed for cattle and thus displace imported soy.
MortenSimonsen explained about Emmelev's role in the climate transition that biodiesel plays a major role in the transport sector, where it may be difficult to convert to other climate-friendly energy products within the next few years. Biodiesel is produced, and it can immediately be used as fuel for the heavy trucks that are already on the roads.
