EU parliamentarian Asger Christensen visited Emmelev and was briefed on the current situation for the production of biodiesel and protein-rich cakes based on rapeseed.
In October, Emmelev A/S was visited by EU parliamentarian Asger Christensen (V), who briefed himself on the current situation in Denmark and brought good arguments to Brussels and Strasbourg.
Biodiesel produced from rapeseed is high on the agenda in the EU due to the fact that production takes up a lot of space in a number of EU countries, and in addition, the debate on the various options for climate-proofing transport in the EU takes up a lot of space in Brussels.
The political director of the European Biodiesel Board, Domenico Mininni, has just called on the European Commission to ensure that the EU's success with the project depends on the inclusion of all sustainable solutions:
"For the first time, the chairman of the Commission, von der Leyen, recognised that biodiesel can count towards the EU's ambition to decarbonise road transport in CO₂ standards, and there is now a firm commitment to revise the Renewable Energy Directive in2026. This momentum must be translated into action," Domenico Mininni said at a press conference.
At the meeting with Asger Christensen, the issue of climate emissions from Danish plant breeding was also discussed.
Climateemissions from Danish plant breeders' use of fertilizers are actually about 20 percent less than the official theoretical figures indicate, according to figures from Aarhus University. The figures were presented as early as two years ago, but it is still the theoretically high value that is also used internationally, and it costs Danish plant breeding dearly. Because emissions play a role in the value of the crops.
The issue of EUDR – European Union Deforestation Regulation – and the problems associated with the use of GFLI for climate calculations, as well as the development of food by fermentation of rapeseed in the company Ferm Food, were also discussed. It was Emmelev's CEO, Morten Simonsen, and Sustainability Manager, Andreas Kaehne Larsen, who presented the items on the agenda.
The election campaign is irunning in Denmark, but nevertheless, mayoral candidate in Odense Kommune, Lars Chr. Lilleholt (V) and mayor of Nordfyn Kommune, Mette Landtved-Holm (V), had time to stop by and say hello to their politician colleague.
